Today Colin introduced us into the importance of 3 Point Lighting. First we discussed the focal length of lenses: •18mm to 55mm is often referred to as a zoom lens. (smaller the number the wider the angle) •105mm+ is a prime lens/telephoto lens (these types of lens give us the best resolution, often used by cinematographers) •55mm or higher give the best quality. Colin also explain to us the 50mm is said to be equivalent to the human eye regarding the our field of vision. Any higher then that is binocular vision equivalent to a bald eagle.

So, as we continued today Colin explained to us how we light our subject successfully. First, we place the first light often referred to as the key light to the left side of our subject (right side from their perspective) then we place the second light/fill light to the right side of our subject, thirdly we place the back fill light behind the subject to the left. If we want to add another light (background light) we place in facing the backdrop/background to reflect off and give our subject more definition.

Essentially, the point of 3 point lighting is to give our subject/object definition in order to achieve the best resolution of what we are trying to capture. After this was explained we were able to try it out ourselves and capture a few images to play around with on photoshop. After we came back from lunch we began editing with photoshop to get used to the software in order to prepare us for when creating our CD covers.
