The First Music Video

The first music video ever made was Bohemian Rhapsody by the British band Queen, it was released in 1975 it was the first song to have a full promotional video, leading to record labels regularly using music videos for promotional purposes. A talkie is a film with a soundtrack, distinct from a silent film, Bohemian Rhapsody is a prime example of this.
MTV

"MTV" which stands from Music Television; debuted on the 1st August 1981. As a platform to commercialise music videos. The first music video aired on MTV was 'Video Killed the Radio Star' by the band 'the Buggles'.
Thriller

'Thriller' by Michael Jackson made probably one of the biggest if not the biggest impact on the music industry and the future of music and music video as a whole. The album 'Thriller' was recorded from April 14th to November 8th 1982, and the video of the song 'Thriller' was recorded in October 1983 and was officially released on December 2nd 1983. The 13 minute music video was first premiered on MTV. It had a budget of $500,000 USD. As MJ was the first black artist to be on MTV and have the second most expensive music video during that time, it aided other artists of colour a way into the industry, giving another light that people of colour are percieved in, talented, creative and most importantly successful as MTV orginally didn't like the idea of premiering Michael Jackson's Thriller, if it was not due to SONY having the majority of the shares that went into funding MTV Thriller would not have been showcased.
YouTube

YouTube first started in February 2005 by 3 former paypal collegues. It completely changed how we consume music videos as orginally we would have to watch music channels such as MTV, Viva, 4 music etc in the hopes that our favourite song/music video would be played that day. Now all music videos that are on YouTube are accessible 24/7; alloing us to listen to and watch our favourite songs at anytime due to having a YouTube app for all devices (Phones, Tablets etc).
YouTube has has a large impact on music video channels such as MTV, Viva, 4 Music etc, by decresing viewing figures to a bare minimum as most if not all consumers use YouTube to watch their favourite artists and music videos, thus affecting the revenue made. It is said that YouTube has 4 billion views per day since last checked from 23rd Janary 2014.
